How to Manage Ear Pain

Ear pain can be very troublesome for both adults and children. The pain can get to severe levels and make sleep near impossible.

An ear infection is often the cause of ear pain, however, wax buildup or trapped water (swimmer's ear) can also cause ear pain.

If you do have an ear infection, the usual treatment is to take antibiotics such as Amoxicillin. These will help you feel better by eliminating the bacteria – you will likely feel better in 1 or 2 days. If you choose not to use antibiotics it is likely that the infection will resolve itself in 4 to 7 days (in 80% of cases).

Whatever you decide to do, you will need to take something to manage the pain until the cause is dealt with.

Auralgan Ear Drops are a good option as they work in 3 ways:

  • Benzocaine, which is a local anesthetic will provide pain relief
  • Phenazone reduces the inflammation and associated pain
  • Glycerol will dry out the ears by absorbing moisture and this will help to relieve pressure in the middle ear

If after taking ear drops you find that the pain is persisting make an appointment with your Doctor.
